Universities host open days

Prospective students explore displays at the University of the Western Cape Open Day.

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) and Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) will hold their annual open days at their respective campuses on Saturday May 6.

The Open Day programme at UWC, at its Bellville campus, from 9am to 3pm, will provide information about undergraduate courses, extracurricular activities, and the opportunities the university has on offer for those who aspire to pursue tertiary education there next year.

Pupils and parents have the opportunity to visit exhibitions presented by the university’s seven faculties and their respective departments, and can also attend a general information session which will include admission requirements.

Online applications, bursaries and loans, selections processes and residence options will be available.

For more information, contact UWC at 021 959 3900/1/2.

CPUT’s event will also be held at its Bellville campus, from 9am to 4pm, with more than 70 career-focused courses for pupils and their parents to explore as CPUT’s six faculties will all be exhibiting on the
day.

CPUT spokeswoman Lauren Kansley said competition for a first year place is fierce with over 30000 first year applications received for only 9000 spots.

“Pupils can get ahead of the pack by attending the Open Day and chatting directly to the staff and students in the courses that interest them while also getting all the relevant application details,” she said.

Ms Kansley said over 10000 people attend the open day each year so pupils and parents are advised to arrive early.
