The Tygerberg Hospital Children’s Trust is appealing to the public to support the Food 4 Families campaign, making up 40 aid packages a week of toiletries and nutritious food, from mid-October to mid-December.
Candice Jansen, the trust’s spokeswoman, says the parcels will go to the children and their families who attend the hospital’s paediatric infectious diseases clinic.
Tygerberg Hospital treats some of the highest volumes of childhood tuberculosis (TB) and HIV in the world, she says. Annually, the children are taken to youth camps and fun outings.
Due to Covid-19, there is a bigger need to feed these patients. Many are receiving chronic treatment for childhood cancer, disabilities and psychiatric problems.
Needs include toothpaste, soap, baked beans, coffee, tea, tinned fish, salt, jelly, oil, biscuits, rice, pasta, soya mince and instant porridge. Email admin@tygerbergchildren.org.za if you can help.
