T wo men, aged 33 and 40, appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court in connection with the rape of a woman and murder of a man at a vacant house in Anderson Street, close to Goodwood train station.
Goodwood police spokesperson, Lieutenant Waynne Theunis said according to available information, two men repeatedly raped the woman in the early hours of Wednesday May 18.
The woman managed to escape but on her way to find help, she collapsed in Voortrekker Road as her leg had been broken during the attack.
Lieutenant Theunis said witnesses called an ambulance, and the woman was rushed to hospital.
He said because the woman was in hospital, she was only able to report the case to Goodwood police on Thursday May 19 and on the same day, police also found the body of a 22-year-old man at the house in Anderson Street where the woman had been raped.
Lieutenant Theunis said later on Thursday, one of the men was arrested by members of the Goodwood crime prevention unit, and the other was arrested on Friday May 20. The men face charges of rape, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and murder.
* Two men, aged 25 and 27, were arrested after they allegedly tried to rob a pupil of her cellphone on Thursday May 26.
Sergeant André Brandt and Constable Sithembiso Runeyi from Goodwood police station were patrolling Jameson Street when they saw a group of men chasing two others, around 9am.
Lieutenant Theunis said according to the men, the other two had tried to rob the 15-year-old girl.
He said the girl had been walking home from school when the two men approached her. One of them threatened her with a knife and put his hand inside her shirt to take her cellphone.
When the girl shouted for help, Lieutenant Theunis said, the two men fled on foot. Police arrested the two men, who were due to appear in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on Monday May 30 on a charge of attempted robbery.
