A man was killed and another wounded in a shooting in Bellville on Sunday, say police.
“Preliminary information suggests that the incident occurred at about 10.45pm on the corner of Barnard and Voortrekker roads. It is alleged that the deceased sustained a gunshot wound to the body and the injured, a gunshot wound to the left thigh. The injured person was hospitalised,” said provincial police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Malcolm Pojie.
A suspect arrested in connection with the shooting would appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court once charged, he said, adding that the motive for the shooting was unknown.
Meanwhile, Brackenfell police are investigating a case of murder after a man was shot dead on Sunday while riding a bicycle, according to police chief Colonel Jakobus Marthinus.
In a statement, Titanium Securitas, an armed-response company, said its medical response team had found the man lying next to Bottelary Road shortly after 7pm. He had been shot twice and had died from his wounds.
