Town planners from the northern suburbs have got behind the City of Cape Town’s drive to put all rezoning applications and building-plan submissions online.
The City said it would only accept online submissions from Monday July 1.
Mayco member for spatial planning and environment, Marian Nieuwoudt, said: “‘We must embrace the digital information age and the advantages that this technology offers us to become a smarter, faster and a more forward-thinking and competitive City. Thus, as of Monday 1 July 2019 district office counters will be replaced by the City’s e-services portal.”
Among the benefits of using the online system, the City said online submissions could be made at any time and from anywhere, as long as there is an internet connection.
The online system has been available since 2015, but not everyone has been using it.
However, there is still a percentage of applicants that still makes use of the paper submission system.
“Many residents have already made the transition from manual to online. Currently, up to 72% of building plan applications and 66% of land use applications are submitted through the City’s e-services portal. We’re now requesting other applicants to also make the switch,” Ms Nieuwoudt said.
One happy user of the online system is Active Planning Solutions, a town planning firm with sites all over the northern suburbs.
