Big things are happening for teens at the Bellville library.
The Teen Zone boasts a Teen Board and a free drama club for young people to meet once a month for an hour.
The Teen Board holds book and peer discussions and advises librarians on material to be sourced for the library. At the drama club, teens can create short “skits” for their peers, while boosting their improvisation and public-speaking skills.
On Friday April 29, at 4pm, the library will hold the Brain Freeze Challenge, where pupils from different high schools in and around Bellville compete: students have to read four of six books provided (one of which is Paper Towns by John Green) and then answer a multiple-choice quiz.
Mayco member for utility services, Ernest Sonnenberg will present the prizes to the top-three pupils.
Entry forms are available at the library or by email.
Future teen events will be school movie nights. The library plans to screen Shakespeare’s Othello, accompanied by refreshments and snacks, as well as other prescribed high school books that have been made into movies, such as Animal Farm and To Kill a Mockingbird.
