Three arrested in Durbanville

Private-security officers caught three suspected members of a crowbar gang in a stolen bakkie in Durbanville last week.

ADT district manager Verena Hulme said one of their armed-response officers had been patrolling Chantecler Avenue, on Thursday February 7, at 12.30pm, when he heard an alert about a beige Mazda bakkie.

“The officer immediately started to follow the vehicle,” she said.

His colleagues joined the pursuit and they stopped the bakkie, ordering the three men out of the vehicle and onto the ground.

“While our officers waited for the police to arrive, they searched the vehicle and found a crowbar, a screwdriver and surgical gloves inside the bakkie,” said Ms Hulme.

Durbanville police spokesman Captain Marchelle Rhode said the bakkie had been stolen in Stellenbosch.

“Well done to our officers and neighbourhood watch members who sent out information about the bakkie,” she said.
