Taxi driver ambushed by passengers in Goodwood

A metered taxi driver was robbed after being called out to Voortrekker Road, Goodwood, last week.

According to provincial police spokeswoman, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, the driver was mugged of his cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money, at 12.30pm.

The driver gave chase and an accident occurred on the corners of Riebeek Street and Dingle roads. No injuries were reported and the robbers are still at large.

A man, 34, was arrested after allegedly stealing a car in Goodwood on Monday October 16.

Acting Goodwood SAPS station commander Lieutenant-Colonel Hennie Rademeyer, said Sergeant Samuel Duikers and Constable Esmerelda Daniels had been patrolling Smartt Road at 3.30am when they saw a man pushing a white Volkswagen Golf. The driver jumped out of the car and ran off as the officers approached. The officers noticed the handle to the driver’s side door and the ignition had been damaged. “The man who pushed the vehicle could not account for the vehicle and he was arrested,” he said.
