The season finale of The Voice South Africa to be aired on Sunday July 7, will be a moment of reckoning for Brackenfell singer Tasche Burger, 19.
It was Tasche’s birthday on Saturday, but she says partying was the last thing on her mind.
In the blind auditions of The Voice-SA, Tasche stunned the judges with a powerful performance of South African rock band The Parlotones’s Lisa se Klavier, turning the chairs of all four coaches – Riky Rick, Riana Nel, Lira Molapo and Francois van Coke.
But in the end she chose Van Coke as her coach.
Tasche is the youngest of the five contestants, including, Eon Le Roux, Siki Jo-An, the PJ Twins, Peter and John Talmakes, and Sone Joubert.
She says they all have what it takes to be a winner, the one who will land the recording deal with Universal Music South Africa and a clutch of other prizes, including a R100 000 clothing voucher.
“All of us work hard and will give our best to get the winning title. We have become a family and are no longer just friends in a competition. At the end of the day, we are all winners.”
She says she has had fun on the show and learnt a lot about music.
“I have grown so much as an artist since the blind auditions, and the hardest part of the competition is saying bye to contestants who has shared the journey with you.”
She traces her singing career back to a chance encounter on a camping trip.
“I was four-years-old when I went camping, and my mom and I were singing around the fire. The woman camping next to us – who was is a vocal coach – heard me singing and told my mom to sign me up for singing classes.”
Tasche attended Durbanville Primary School – where she sang in the choir. Later, she was home schooled but kept up with her singing and vocal training.
She was working as a waitress at Ocean Basket before she joined The Voice. She has given up her job to focus on a debut album.
“I write music based on personal experiences- in my spare time,” says.
