One man was killed, another wounded and a third is on the run after they opened fire on police officers in First Avenue in Kraaifontein on Wednesday August 29.
Police were tipped off about the three men believed to
be robbing people walking
down First Avenue, on their way to work, and when police
gave chase, the suspected
robbers opened fire. Police returned fire and, with one suspect being killed in the shootout.
Another suspect was later arrested and police is still searching for the other.
Provincial police spokesperson, Noloyiso Rwexana referred all questions to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID), saying: “They are investigating circumstances surrounding this incident”.
IPID’s spokesperson Moses Dlamini confirmed the incident and said it was currently being investigation.
“No arrests have been made. The investigation continues,” he said.
