Kraaifontein police arrested seven people in two days for being in possession of illegal firearms.
Captain Hein Hendricks, spokesman for Kraaifontein police, said a house in Sobukwe Street, Wallacedene, was searched on Wednesday September 25 after a tip-off from residents about a gun being kept there.
“Inside the property police discovered a rifle under a bed and after further investigation, it was discovered that the rifle was stolen during November 2013 in Bellville,” he said.
Two men, aged 29 and 31, and a 27-year-old woman were arrested.
In separate incidents, three men, one aged 36, and two aged 42, were arrested in Coffee Street, for being in possession of a pistol and several rounds of ammunition.
Later on the same day, a 30-year-old man was arrested when police saw him dropping a firearm in Nellie Street, Scottsdene.
“All seven suspects were arrested and detained on possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition charges at Kraaifontein SAPS. The suspects are due to appear in the Blue Downs Regional Court once they are charged,” said Captain Hendricks.
