SAPS arrest courier hijackers

Police seized a Norinco 9mm pistol and seven bullets.

The SAPS Flying Squad arrested two suspected hijackers after a courier company in Sunbird Park, Kuils River, was robbed on Thursday November 8.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel André Traut, said three armed men fled in a blue Opel Corsa after the cargo was transferred from the hijacked courier vehicle.

Police pursued the Corsa, exchanging gunfire with the robbers.

The driver of the Corsa lost control and crashed on the R300.

“Two suspects aged 34 and 35 were arrested, with the stolen cargo,” Lieutenant Colonel Traut said.

Police also recovered a 9mm Norinco pistol and seven bullets.

“The third suspect managed to evade arrest and is being sought. One of the suspects was admitted to hospital with injuries.”

Kuils River police did not respond to questions.
