Sandwich-making record for Ladles of Love

Making history and 304 583 sandwiches in one hour.

Ladles of Love, based at GrandWest, set a sandwich-making record on Mandela Day, Saturday July 18, by making 304 583 sandwiches in one hour.

The NPO’s target was 125 000 sandwiches, but by 2.30pm the record was broken, exceeding the current South African record by almost 18 000 and smashing the world-record by almost 68 000.

Ladles of Love founder Danny Diliberto said the atmosphere had been electric at their GrandWest centre of operations.

“Truck after truck arrived to offload the sandwiches collected from 13 depots across the Western Cape. The final truck off-loaded at 4pm and the final count was completed half an hour later via a live stream.”

The sandwiches had fed more than 300 000 people, he said.

“While the record attempt is exciting, our main aim is to continue to feed millions of people in communities that are in dire need during this challenging time,” said Mr Diliberto.
