Goodwood police arrested a man, aged 50, after he stole a car on Wednesday May 23.
Captain Waynne Theunis spokesman for Goodwood police said the man was caught on CCTV camera stealing a Mazda 323 at Value Centre N1 City.
Captain Theunis said the man was again spotted at the mall by security officers on Saturday May 26, at 12.15pm.
“He was wearing the same clothes as on Wednesday. Sergeant Samuel Duikers responded to the complaint and after confirming the theft on the CCTV cameras the man was arrested.”
The man appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on a theft of motor vehicle charge.
* Police arrested a man, aged 37, after a business was broken into at N1 City Mall during the early hours of Thursday May 17.
Captain Theunis said cellphones, laptops and electrical equipment to the value of
R500 000 were stolen.
“Video footage showed how six to eight suspects broke into the shop and fled the scene in two vehicles.
“Investigating officer Sergeant Caswell Hendricks traced the vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, to a rental company at Cape Town International Airport,” he said.
A group of detectives led by Sergeant Hendricks followed up information and arrested the suspect when he returned the car to the rental company on Tuesday May 29.
The suspect later appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on business break-in charge.
