Revive, Rebuild, Renew, Restore is a community-based project that tries to restore hope in broken families and individuals.
It was started by social worker Hilary van der Westhuizen after she saw there was a lack of support services for women and children, especially in the Kuils River community. She and a friend, Sasha Davids, decided to ask friends and family for donations of sanitary towels and hand them out to those in need.
Donations and sponsorships came from everywhere and over and above the toiletries, the project also received donations of toiletries.
These were given to Badisa Kuils River, a child protection organisation; and the Claremont-based Mater Domini, a home for pregnant women in crisis.
“The aim of this project is to initiate an opportunity for various organisations to network in the hope to build support structures and development programmes to the communities in the northern suburbs,” Ms Van der Westhuizen said.
