Residents shocked after son, allegedly kills mother

The death of a 55-year-old Kalkfontein woman at the weekend, allegedly at the hands of her 14-year-old son, sent shock waves through the community.

According to a source, an altercation between the mother and her son on Saturday August 10 led to him apparently stabbing her multiple times.

The boy and his mother cannot be identified because he is a minor.

When Northern News called a relative for comment, she said: “We are all too heartbroken to speak, our wounds are still fresh.We also don’t know what happened.”

Community activist, Johannes Pula, said the woman was a member of the Kalkfontein Neighbourhood Watch and a “very good mother to her children.”

He said she believed that her work as a patroller would help curb crime and keep children off the streets in Kalkfontein.

“She was very concerned about the youth in our community. She loved the community’s kids as she loved her own,” he said.

Mr Pula said there are “too many stories leading to the truth.”

Provincial police spokesperson, Captain FC Van Wyk, said Kuils River police attended to a complaint in Elmarie Street, Kalkfontein and upon arrival they found a 55-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds to her body.

“A murder case was registered for investigation. Circumstances surrounding the incident is currently unknown. A 14-year-old boy was arrested, and is due to appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates Court soon,” he said.
