Police have launched a disciplinary investigation after two policemen allegedly got into a fist fight at a Brackenfell mall recently.
One of the officers is stationed at the Kraaifontein police station while the other works on the Cape Flats.
The fight allegedly took place at a Pep Home store at the Fairbridge Mall on Thursday July 15.
According to a source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, a love triangle was to blame for the brawl, with the one officer accusing the other of sleeping with his wife.
The witness said cups and other merchandise in the shop had been broken during the fight.
The officers were not in uniform.
Mall management did not respond to questions by the time of publication. Although management at the Pep Home store promised to return calls with a response, they had not done so at the time of writing.
Provincial police spokesman Colonel André Traut said the incident was under disciplinary investigation and no criminal charges were being pursued.
“A disciplinary investigation is an internal affair between the employer and the employee, and the detail thereof is not disclosed to the media,” he said.
“The conduct of our members, whether they are on or off duty, is bound to police regulations and any misconduct is viewed in a serious light.”
