Kuils River post office is closed after it was robbed last Thursday, just two months after the Brackenfell post office was hit.
It was one of three post office pension pay-points hit across the city in the same day: the Hout Bay and Kenilworth post offices were also robbed.
According to police spokesman, Captain FC Van Wyk, four armed men held up the Kuils River post office just after 7am on Thursday, getting away with an undisclosed amount of cash.
No one was injured and the robbers were still at large, he said.
“Police are investigating whether the same suspects were responsible for all the incidents,” he said.
SA Post Office spokeswoman, Martie Gilchrist, said the Van Riebeeck Road post office would reopen in coming weeks once staff had fully recovered from their traumatic experience. They are getting trauma counselling.
“Fortunately pensioners could visit any retail store, such as Checkers and Shoprite for the pension payout,” she said.
Ms Gilchrist said the public could use the Soneike and Brackenfell post offices while the Kuils River one was closed.
On June 3, three armed men entered the Brackenfell post office, while one kept watch.
“The men demanded money from the front tills and fled in a white Ford Bantam bakkie (“Robbers pounce on post office,” Northern News, June 5).
Ms Gilchrist said: “We are taking the necessary steps to reduce the attractiveness of post offices as targets by minimising cash on hand and using items such as drop safes and we’ve prioritised the high-risk branches.”
