Policeman feeds the needy

Constable Kwayo Louw,24, feeds five elderly women in Kraaifontein

A young policeman has been making up food parcels from his own pocket for Kraaifontein’s needy.

Constable Kwayo Louw,24, who works for the Western Cape Flying Squad in Pinelands, says the elderly and frail in the area are suffering the most because they can’t get to soup kitchens. He has been helping five elderly women with his food parcels.

“Giving back to my community has always been a passion for me,” he said.

He was still at Scottsdene High School when he started the Kraailove community Facebook group in 2014 with the idea of helping the poor.

“Kraailove has done so many good things in this community but it’s never in the headlines,” he said. “Shootings and all the ills of Kraaifontein are out there for people to see but there is some good in this community and that’s why I started the group.”

Community Safety MEC Albert Fritz commended Constable Louw for his efforts. “This showcases that the role of a police officer is not simply enforcement but also to look out for those most vulnerable and play a part in addressing socio-economic challenges,” he said.
