The Flying Squad seized liquor worth more than R1 million and arrested four men in the Parow area on Friday.

Two of the men face charges of buying liquor illegally; the other two for illegally selling it.

The men, aged 26, 27, 32 and 36, are due to appear in court to face charges under the Disaster Management Act.

Police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Andre Traut said those breaking lockdown laws would be punished.

Officers had raided the business premises following a tip-off and had seized 319 boxes of liquor with an estimated value of R1.1-million, he said.

Police in the province have made a series of liquor and cigarette related busts over the last week, with smugglers getting increasingly creative as they try to move their supplies.

Police have also cracked down on bars and shebeens still trading and have launched 51 investigations, with 20 liquor licences suspended.

Two reports are being referred to the Liquor Licensing Tribunal for consideration. An additional 12 cases remain under investigation and five have been referred to SAPS.
