A Bellville paedophile has been sentenced to three life terms and an additional 57 years after being convicted of 448 charges, ranging from sexual assault, possession of child pornography and the production of pornographic material.
He was found in possession of child pornography on his work computer.
The man, who is in his 40s, was sentenced in the Parow Magistrate’s Court on Thursday October 12, following a three-year investigation by Bellville police’s Warrant Officer Johan Kotze.
Bellville police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Henrietta van Niekerk said a co-worker had notified the police of the material on the man’s work computer in Stikland.
“The allegations were followed up and the suspect’s computer was seized. On the computer, the police found thousands of pornographic photos and videos with two specific children.”
On further investigation, it was found that the Malmesbury parents of the two children, aged 10 and 12, had given the man permission to fetch their children to spend weekends with him.
Warrant Officer Van Niekerk said the man had befriended the family, supported them financially and eventually gained their trust.
“He was a family friend for five years and only started having sleep-overs after two years,” she said.
Warrant Officer Henrietta van Niekerk said the sentences would not run concurrently.
