No arrest in Paarl Street killing

Carl Lakay, 45, was killed in front of his Paarl Street home in Goodwood last week.

Goodwood police have made no arrests in connection with the murder of Carl Lakay, 45, who was shot dead while he sat in front of his Paarl Street home last week.

Cops found him with multiple gunshot wounds, around 8.30pm on Sunday August 5.

CPF chairman John Ross said the incident “was clearly a hit”.

“This ‘protection racket war’ goes back many years but has recently escalated out of proportion. It was clearly a hit. The CPF urges the SAPS crime intelligence to increase their efforts to bring these gangsters to book otherwise innocent people are going to get caught in the crossfire, as in the recent public attempts on Jerome ‘Donkie’ Booysen’s life,” he said.

CaptainWaynneTheunis spokesman for Goodwood police, however, could not confirm whether the shooting had been a hit.

He said Goodwood CPF had met with SAPS station management to discuss this incident as well as the rising rate of violent crime in the precinct.

“A plan is being implemented with SAPS in conjunction with the neighborhood watches to increase visible patrols throughout Goodwood,” he said.
