Police Flying Squad and dog unit officers arrested nine men and seized wads of cash and an unlicensed gun after a car was hijacked in Kuils River on Sunday.
Officers responding to a report of a black VW Golf having been hijacked in Kuils River spotted the vehicle in Main Road, Claremont, said police spokeswoman Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana.
Another VW Golf – a silver one – appeared to be following the black car.
Dog unit officers pulled over the black Golf and arrested four suspects aged between 24 and 26. The Flying Squad officers pursued the silver Golf and pulled it over in Duinefontein Road, Manenberg.
Two occupants jumped out of the car and tried to flee. One tried to shoot at the officers who returned fire and shot the suspect in the leg.
Police arrested them along with three other men in the car.
An undisclosed amount of money was found in the car.
