New fence at Oakdale park

A public open space in Oakdale, Bellville, got a new look when the installation of a fence was completed last week.

The construction of a fence on the Mabel Street side of Avondale Park started on Monday February 22, and the first section has been completed at a cost of R120 000.

During the next phase, a fence will be put up on the Avondale Street side of the park.

The third phase of the project will introduce additional plants and recreational equipment through ward allocation funding in the next financial year. In addition, the irrigation system will also be upgraded.

“We worked closely with the community to identify and prioritise community projects.

“The fencing and beautification of the park will give residents a sense of pride and we hope that, together with the City, they will take ownership of Avondale Park and help to keep it in pristine condition,” said Ward 3 councillor Brendan van der Merwe.
