The N1 City Post Office will shut its doors permanently on Friday April 22 (“Post office set to close,” Northern News March 16).
In November last year, the branch closed for a few days due to unpaid rent (“Rent arrears shut N1 City post office,” Northern News November 25, 2015).
In a statement issued last week, the South African Post Office confirmed the closure and said post boxes would stay at the site.
“Other branches within a 5km radius are Goodwood, Edgemead and Chempet. Employees affected by the closure will be relocated to other branches,” said spokeswoman Martie Gilchrist.
Bothasig and Bloubergrant branches are also closing, while Paarl and Huguenot are amalgamating.
The Post Office, which has battled financially, received a R650 million government bailout earlier this year.
