Morningstar is banking on Youth Day – and skateboarders – to reignite interest in an “underutilised” skate park.
Morningstar Action Group (MAG) chairman Moosa Raise said community groups hoped to draw young people back to the skatepark, at the sports field, in De Villiers Avenue, with a day of skateboarding and skateboard tricks on Friday June 16.
The City of Cape Town upgraded the 10-year-old skatepark five years ago.
“We are fortunate to have a skateboard park next to the field. This is unfortunately heavily underutilised by our children from Morningstar,” said Mr Moosa.
“We aim to formally introduce skating to our children from all ages. We need to provide our children with a positive alternative.”
MAG has partnered with the Uniting Reformed Church, the Apostolic Faith Mission Church and the Morningstar field management committee for the event.
The groups have appealed for help from skateboarders and for donations of skateboards, which can be dropped off at Clicks in Wellington Road.

The event takes place on Friday June 16, from 10am to 3pm.
