Mini conference for NGOs

Finding funding for NGOs in a sluggish economy will come under the spotlight at the annual conference in Parow this month.

The conference is from Tuesday to Thursday November 19 to 21. Guest speakers include Community Chest chief executive Lorenzo Davids and Professor Eric Atmore, director of the centre for Early Childhood Development.
People First Foundation co-founder Frank Julie said many NPOs and NGOs were closing because they were struggling to get funding.
The People First Foundation works with organisations that are helping communities and fighting poverty. The non-profit sector was at a crossroads and could not carry on as it has done in the past, Mr Julie said.
“A new awareness in needed – an awareness that appreciates and can build on the successes of the past and confront with courage our weaknesses in the present.”
People First Foundation operates in the Western Cape, the Northern Cape, the Eastern Cape and Gauteng.
The conference said Mr Julie, was aimed at NGO leaders and managers.
Deborah Dreyer, senior director of the Department of Social Development, will speak on government funding trends and Moefeeda Kageer, of the City of Cape Town, will speak on grant-in-aid funding and how to access it.
There will also be talks on legal compliance, international fundraising, strategies for struggling NGOs and effective proposal writing.
Entry is R150 per day (R450 for three days) and R75 for fundraising forum members. For more information contact 078 812 4603 or frankjulie2604@gmail.com
