Mechanic commits robbery with client’s car

Parow police arrested four suspects for a business robbery in Elsies River on Thursday July 20.

Captain Kevin Williams, spokesman for Parow police, said on Wednesday July 12, at 1am, six people pulled up at the Shell garage in Dakar Street in Parow Valley.

“They requested R50 petrol and one of the suspects paid with R200. When the petrol attendant left to get change, one of the suspects followed him with a gun.”

The armed man, along with four other men, robbed the petrol station of R5000.

Captain Williams said police were given a registration number which was that of an Isuzu bakkie.

“The owner of the car was found and she confirmed ownership of the vehicle, but said that her car was at a mechanic in Elsies River. She had no knowledge of the incident.”

Captain Williams said police visited the mechanic but he was not at home.

“On the second day, a team of Parow detectives along with the crime prevention unit intensified their search for the suspect.

“Police later found the suspects in the roof and the mechanic confessed to being involved in the crime and wrote a confession. The other three suspects were arrested as accomplices to the crime,” he said.

Goodwood police were kept busy on Saturday July 22 with two thefts out of vehicles, three thefts of motor vehicles as well as a robbery being reported on the day.
