Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis joined the Majik Forest conservation area management team in Durbanville to officially open the renosterveld garden today, Wednesday September 4.
Close to 100 people attended the launch and 19 wild olive trees and a wild peach tree were planted.
“The animals and insects that we have got here are adapted to live on these plants, not necessarily roses, and the stuff that we like to plant in our gardens. So what we are doing is to conserve and protect all the little patches, remnants in our parks as well,” said Andre Venter, the coordinator of the Wild-flower Stepping Stones Project, which looks after the area together with the City.
He said the garden was almost a year old and that its official opening was a celebration of spring.
“This is open for the public to come and enjoy, take pictures. So everyone who wants to come in, they can come and visit it.”
