Man turns gun on ex-wife

A 55-year-old man died after shooting his ex-wife in the chest and then turning the gun on himself on Monday October 30, at 11.25am.

Durbanville police spokesman Captain Marchelle Rhode said the shooting happened at PST Training, at the Montrose Place building in Bella Rosa Street, where the man’s 40-year-old ex-wife was employed.

“Four shots were fired outside the premises and both persons were critically injured,” he said.

ER24 spokesman Russel Meiring said paramedics arrived on scene at 11.47am, where they found the man lying at the entrance of the business while the woman was found lying near the stairs.

“Paramedics assessed the patients and found that they had each sustained a gunshot wound to their heads, leaving them both in a critical condition. Paramedics treated both patients and provided them with advanced life support interventions. Once treated, the patients were transported to a nearby hospital for urgent treatment,” he said.

Captain Rhode confirmed the man had died from his injuries. The police have opened an inquest docket and an attempted murder case.
