A man was killed and two others injured when two cars hit each other and flipped on the N1 inbound near the Brackenfell turn-off on Sunday.
ER24 spokesman Werner Vermaak said emergency services arrived on the scene shortly before 1pm.
“One of the occupants of the Volvo was found outside the vehicle with fatal injuries. It is believed that he was ejected from the vehicle when it overturned.
“Two other occupants were found with moderate injuries. Both were treated on the scene and later transported to a nearby hospital,” he said.
Three occupants from the VW were assessed on scene and declined to be transported to hospital. Mr Vermaak said the cause of the collision was not known yet.
According to provincial traffic chief Kenny Africa, both vehicles had been travelling on the N1 towards Paarl when the drivers had lost control.
The cars had landed in the opposite lane, in the direction Cape Town, blocking both lanes.
