A Scottsville man, 26, has been arrested in connection with theft at a sports field in Northpine, last week.
According to the City of Cape Town’s law enforcement spokesman, Wayne Dyason, the man was caught during a stakeout by its Metal Theft Unit on Friday March 2, at 4.15am.
“The officers observed a suspect making his way onto the field and caught him red-handed damaging the electricity switchboard while attempting to steal copper wires and circuit breakers,” said Mr Dyason.
A knife, circuit breaker and pieces of copper were confiscated, Mr Dyason said.
“The financial cost of this one suspect’s actions are unknown at this stage, but is expected to be significant,” he said.
