Man, 70, robbed

Police have arrested the niece of a 70-year-old man who was assaulted and robbed in his Wiener Street home, last week.

Goodwood police spokesman Captain Wayne Theunis said the 31-year-old woman had a history of run-ins with the law and was on parole for armed robbery.

The incident happened on Wednesday January 31, at 8.30pm.

“According to information, the suspect assaulted the victim who was later found by family members. The victim sustained facial injuries and was covered in blood when he was found,” said Captain Theunis.

“A laptop, two mobility walkers and jewellery were stolen. The victim identified the attacker as a family member who has previous convictions for armed robbery and house break-ins and was on parole for armed robbery,” said Captain Theunis.

The suspect handed herself over to the police on Thursday February 1 and appeared in the Goodwood Magistrate’s Court on a charge of house robbery.
