Kuils River magistrate Gwen Mziba was gunned down while visiting a friend’s house in Wallacedene on Saturday November 6.
The mother-of-two was shot fatally in the thigh by a man who walked into the Fountain Street house, under the pretence of wanting to buy an alcoholic beverage, according to a Daily Voice report.
He also shot and wounded Ms Mziba’s friend who has been hospitalised.
The report said the slain magistrate had been shot in the ankle in Delft last month.
In May, Magistrate AC Mashala, who sits in the Blue Downs Magistrate’s Court, was shot in the buttocks in Mfuleni.
Northern News asked Magistrates Commission spokesperson Mohamed Dawood whether the authorities were considering security for presiding officers.
“She was twice consulted by the head of the administration cluster, after the first incident, and she did not request any form of security,” Mr Dawood said.
“There was no indication that the incident was in any manner work related,” he added.
Provincial police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said two women aged 34 and 40 were shot by an unknown perpetrator, wounding one and killing the other. He said Kraaifontein police were investigating a case of murder and attempted murder.
• In a separate incident, police arrested a 27-year-old man in Wallacedene for the illegal possession of a firearm. Officers had confiscated the CZ 75 pistol with a filed-off serial number on Friday night November 5, said provincial police spokesman Sergeant Wesley Twigg.
• On Saturday November 6, police arrested three men, aged 20 to 27, for hijacking a Toyota Tazz earlier in the day.
The vehicle was pulled over on the R44 near the Klapmuts shopping centre and both the vehicle and suspects were searched.
A 9mm firearm, mandrax and tik had found on the suspects and the Toyota Tazz had been linked to the hijacking, Sergeant Twigg said.
