Mag wheels and tyres to the value of R44 000 were stolen in three separate incidents this past weekend in Durbanville. Police spokesman Lieutenant Marchell Rhode says they have noted a spike in mag wheel thefts from vehicles in Sonstraal Heights.
“The community must secure their vehicles by parking them inside the garage, or safeguard their premises by locking their gates. Vehicles being parked in the streets are high risk,” he said. Most of the incidents are taking place at night between 9pm and 5am.
“Sonstraal is the area that is the mostly being targeted. Any suspicious activities in the area must be reported to the police.”
* A 61-year-old missing person was found dead in Fairtrees, Durbanville, on Tuesday June 7.
Jeff Fredericks, 61, was found by a friend lying in a canal in an open field.
Mr Fredericks, from Stellenberg, was reported missing by his wife on Saturday June 4. The friend had gone searching for Mr Fredericks in the area where he frequently walked.
Lieutenant Rhode said an inquest docket was being investigated.
