Northern suburbs seniors joined celebrations in Parow on Tuesday last week to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Tygerberg Service Centre for the Aged and Meals on Wheels.
The non-profit organisation falls under the Meals on Wheels Community Services, which works across the country.
The organisation serves meals to the elderly and other in need, according to Anne-Marie Watt, the manager of its Tygerberg branch.
“We have club facilities where elderly can attend weekly programmes of entertainment and educational programmes, from arts and crafts to dancing between the tables.
“On more serious mornings, we have doctors come in and talk to the elderly about abuse, health issues and much more. Once a month, nurses visit us to take the blood pressure of our elderly and a podiatrist sees to their feet at a minimal cost.”
The organisation has premises at 30 Weimar Street, Parow. Call Ms Watt at 083 375 0246 for more information.
