Provincial police are still investigating the abduction of Plattekloof businessman Liyaqat Parker, 65.
Mr Parker was seized outside his business in Stairway Close, De Greens, in Parow, last month (“Family’s kidnap anguish,” Wednesday July 18).
Provincial police spokesman Captain FC van Wyk said there had been no new developments in the case.
Media reports last week claimed police had arrested a Mozambican national in Thailand who is suspected of being the leader of a kidnapping ring targeting prominent Cape Town businessmen.
However, police could not confirm those reports, and the Parker family’s spokesman, Walid Brown, of Werksman’s Attorneys, said on Friday July 27 that the “situation remains the same and there is no comment with regard the investigation”.
A fortnight ago, the family appealed to the kidnappers for Mr Parker’s safe return due to his ailing health.
Mr Parker is the founder of the Foodcorp group that owns Foodworld.
