Arthur Hornet, 59, of Ravensmead was praised for his 40 years of service at Tygerberg Hospital.

Tygerberg Hospital has honoured more than 300 of its employees for their long-service.

One of them, Arthur Hornet, 59, of Ravensmead, is a household aid in the hospital’s physiotherapy department. He has 40 years of service at the hospital. “Don’t just work for a salary. Have a good relationship with your colleagues,” he said.

Elizabeth Links, 60, of Belhar has worked as a food service supervisor at Tygerberg Hospital’s main kitchen for close to 41 years.

“In my line of work, you need to know about everything in the kitchen to relieve wherever the need is, especially in cases when staff do not pitch for work,” she said.

For 41 years, Tabitha Solomons, 62, of Blue Downs, a senior staff nurse, has been working at Tygerberg Hospital and of those years, 38 years of them was spent working in the burns unit.

“Just to know that you were part of the patients’ healing process puts a smile on my face,” she said.

“I’m doing my work not for the money but for the love and joy my line of work brings.”
