The Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District (VRCID) and Mould Empower Serve (MES) have received an international award for their Centre of Hope homeless shelter.
Derek Bock, chief operating officer of the VRCID, accepted the award, on behalf of both organisations, from the International Downtown Association, in Seattle, on Thursday September 12.
“Receiving this award underscores the strength of our partnership with MES, our dedicated social development partner in Bellville and Parow,” he said. “Through the Centre of Hope, we have shown that it is possible to bring individuals off the streets and offer them hope, even if only through a safe place to sleep.”
Leona Pienaar, chief executive of MES, said: “It is my prayer that our Parow Centre of Hope will continue to bring hope to the most vulnerable in our community.”
“The VRCID in partnership with MES have demonstrated skillful application of urban place management principles with their project,” said David Downey, president of the IDA.
