The Voce Armoniche (Voices in harmony) choir hosted by JG Meiring High School in Goodwood, formed a choir with the touring Namakwaland High School choir from Springbok, for the Tygerberg International Eisteddfod Choir Festival.
The festival takes place over two weeks and Voce Armoniche took part on Wednesday May 23. The community choir consists of pupils from JG Meiring, Eerste River, Elsies River and Scottsville in Kraaifontein.
They walked away with 89% (gold) after only one combined rehearsal.
Christine Bam, of Voce Armoniche, and Shaun Kuswayo, of Namakwaland, had planned the collaboration for some time and the two choirs sang together for the first time at the Taalmonument Choir Festival in Paarl earlier this year.
“This is so special, as choirs don’t often work together to achieve the same goals. Congratulations to all the members and teachers involved,” said Ms Bam.
