Gangs fight at court

Shots rang out outside the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday morning in a clash between rival gang members that saw two people injured.

Bellville police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Henrietta van Niekerk said members of three rival gangs had appeared in court earlier.

An argument broke out between the rival gangs outside the court, where an unknown man was assaulted.

Soon afterwards, shots were fired, and Warrant Officer van Niekerk said a known gangster had been wounded in the arm.

“No other persons were shot, but a member of the public fell during the incident and injured her head,” she said.

All the cases were postponed and the accused were remanded in custody at Goodwood prison. A criminal case was opened.
