A suspected burglar is in police custody after a Protea Village housekeeper raised the alarm about a break-in.
According to Brackenfell police, the 31-year-old Kraaifontein man is accused of breaking into a Reservoir Street house last Wednesday.
Brackenfell police station spokeswoman Captain Erica Crous said the housekeeper ran to a neighbour for help when an intruder broke in through a bathroom window.
“The neighbour then contacted the owner, and, after obtaining a clear description of the suspect, the owner and security company searched the area and found a person matching the description in Suikerbossie Street,” said Captain Crous.
The suspect was found with a laptop, jewellery and cash in his possession, she said.
“The suspect was arrested for housebreaking and theft and detained at Brackenfell police station.”
