Kobus Vivier, Kuils River Fibre Project
The fibre to the home (FTTH) service has up to now exclusively been available in areas like Hazendal and Zevenwacht Estate, therefore leaving the majority of Kuils River without such a service.
The Kuils River Fibre Project, in partnership with the Facebook group Kuils River Community News & Information, therefore approached various fibre network infrastructure providers in an attempt to bring the service to the greater community.
Vumatel showed great interest in assisting the broader Kuils River community.
Thirty percent of the community was required to show their interest within a targeted area before any further planning in Kuils River could be done.
Business development manager, Caroline van der Westhuizen, said being busy with the deployment of the network in Brackenfell, it made sense to look to move to Kuils River next.
Vumatel therefore challenged the Kuils River Fibre Project to solicit the necessary interest, which with their assistance was easily reached.
We knew the majority of Kuils River needs fibre, therefore it made sense to get the ball rolling.
Vumatel was the only company to express any signs of interest. They build an open access fibre network, giving residents 40 internet service providers to choose from.
It’s still a way to go before we are fibre-ready, like they say, “Rome wasn’t built in a day”. We are however looking forward to seeing our streets turn pink over the course of the next few weeks as the rollout begins.
