Fake City staff steal laptop in Kraaifontein

Fake City staff stole a laptop from the home of an elderly couple in Peerless Park West on Monday, say police

The men wore City-branded shirts with matching ID cards and asked to check the home’s electricity points and electricity meter, said Kraaifontein police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Louise Strydom.

The couple’s daughter had found her laptop missing after the men had left, said Warrant Officer Strydom.

The incident follows a series of similar thefts in the area (“Watch out for phony City staff, warn cops,” Northern News, November 16, 2023).

Mayoral committee member for energy Beverley van Reenen previously told Northern News that real City staff should have a work order number specific to the home and a City-issued identification card.
