A developer wants to build duplexes on what are currently three residential plots in Durbanville.

The City of Cape Town is considering an application to rezone the plots at 2, 2A and 4A Protea Road, from single residential to general residential to make way for Camphor Square, to be developed by Innovia Properties.

A house on one of the plots is more than 60 years old, but the developer has a permit from Heritage Western Cape to demolish it, according to planning documents.

Eldred Smith’s Elco Property Developments submitted the rezoning application on behalf of the developer.

“The property will be turned into a group housing complex that will house up to 18 three bedroom double-storey units,” he said.

An architectural plan describes a cluster of 17 double-storey duplexes and one single-storey simplex.

The complex will be on the corner of Protea and Ixia roads and link with Plein Street.

The public has until Friday May 3 to submit comments or objections.
