Police arrested six men, aged between 26 and 40, in Kraaifontein last week, on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and property believed to have been stolen.
On Thursday January 10, Maitland Flying Squad members patrolling the Kraaifontein area with the assistance of the K9 unit, responded to information that a suspect wanted in connection with a Brackenfell housebreaking and theft case and a case of pointing a firearm, registered in Table View, was hiding in Lucullus Road, Kraaifontein.
Upon searching the residence, police found the unlicensed firearm and ammunition and a 37-year-old man was arrested.
The previous day, on Wednesday January 9, around 9am, members of Kraaifontein SAPS had followed up on a tip-off about two bakkies transporting stolen copper cables belonging to Eskom and Telkom.
When police stopped and searched the vehicles, in Industrial Road, Joostenbergvlakte, they discovered 27 bags containing burnt copper wires. Five men aged between 26 and 40 were arrested for possession of property presumed to have been stolen.
Police spokesman, Captain Hein Henricks said: “The investigation continues in identifying ownership of the confiscated items. All suspects will appear in the Blue Downs Magistrates’s Court court once they have been charged.”
