Parow’s infamous drug houses were raided again last week – netting a suspected stolen vehicle and drugs including tik, mandrax, dagga and heroin.
Three men were arrested: two in connection with a stolen car found at a drug house in Parow Street, and another man, 27, for possession of tik.
In a joint operation between Metro police and Law Enforcement, a problem building and drug house in the street, was raided.
Metro police spokesperson, Senior Superintendent Zelda Martin said the stolen vehicle was found parked in front of the Parow Street property on Thursday June 29.
“The vehicle had no licence disc and two different sets of number plates,” said Senior Superintendent Martin.
Metro police said the vehicle was suspected to have been stolen in the Cape Town CBD the night before.
“At the same address, members also arrested a 27-year-old male for possession of two bankies of tik,” she said.
A similar raid took place in Parow at the end of May which was also attended by Mayco member for safety and security and social services, JP Smith (“Suspected sex slave found in Parow”, Northern News, May 31).
The City said nine drug outlets in Parow and Bellville were targeted.
Parow police spokesman Captain Kevin Williams confirmed the two men were detained for possession of a stolen vehicle. They were set to go to court on Monday July 3.
Last month Northern News reported on the frustration faced by residents in Parow, Carstens and Cloete streets where several drug houses operate (“Parow streets – where drugs rule”, Northern News, June 7).
At the time they had questioned the authorities’ willingness to deal with the drug dealing on their doorsteps for about five years.
PACRIF Neighbourhood Watch welcomed the raid by Metro police and law enforcement.
“Only problem is that when they leave the area drug dealers are back to business as if nothing happened. The problem houses need to be closed. 44 Parow Street has been a problem house for almost five years and has still not been closed.
“On the other hand the community welcomes this unexpected raids in the area. They are glad that something is being done again after such a long time,” they said.
