Bellville police arrested five “doppie players” during a joint operation with Metro police and the Voortrekker Road Corridor Improvement District in the CBD on Thursday February 1.
Bellville police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Henrietta van Niekerk has called on the public not to play these games.
“The ‘doppie’ players have a few well dressed women who work with them. The ladies pretend to be playing and winning big amounts of money. This entices people passing by to join in on the game but they never win as the game is rigged,” she said.
Warrant Officer Van Niekerk said criminal charges could not be laid against them, as participants take part willingly. The five were given fines of R100 each for obstruction.
