Donations given to Scottsdene fire victims

The scene of the fire that destroyed 16 shacks on Sunday October 3.

Donations have poured in for the 25 people whose 16 backyard shacks were destroyed in Scottsdene.

The fire happened in Nellie Street, late on Sunday afternoon October 3, according to Fire and Rescue Service spokesman Jermaine Carelse.

Ward 7 councillor Grant Twigg and the Kraaifontein Development Forum (KDF) spent this week making donations of food, clothes and water.

Kraaifontein, Brackenfell and Milnerton fire crews fought the blaze.

A man and a woman were treated on the scene for smoke inhalation, said Mr Carelse.

Mr Twigg donated food parcels to each family. The fire had started at one shack and spread to 11 in three different yards, he said.

“Some families could save some stuff, but others lost everything, including their personal information. The community, individuals, some organisations and myself are all assisting and contributing towards the affected families.“

Kraaifontein Development Forum secretary Kelly Baloyi said all the families’ had left were the clothes they had worn at the time of the fire.
