Day 1 Lockdown

A supermarket on Voortrekker Road limited numbers of shoppers entering the store.

On the first day of the national 21-day lockdown yesterday, residents and businesses from Plattekloof and Monte Vista to Parow and Goodwood
appeared to be taking the situation seriously.

Electronic signboards on the
N7 in Goodwood clearly signalled the situation – Covid-19 Lockdown In Effect
and Drive +1 in a 5 Seater (vehicle).

The usually bustling, noisy Voortrekker
Road was virtually empty with the exception of a few vagrants scratching
through bins and people carrying shopping bags.

Shoppers stood in bunches
ignoring the two-metre social distancing rule at Parow Mall as they waited for
taxis. Parow Station Arcade was practically deserted with no traders and few
pedestrians. In Voortrekker Road a supermarket limited numbers of shoppers
entering the store.

Goodwood and Parow train stations
are closed and only a couple of taxis were seen on the roads.

No military vehicles were
seen or road blocks however a security vehicle and police van was spotted at
Parow train station speaking to a taxi driver.
